Steel Building Square Footage Calculator

Enter a width and a length in feet to see the square footage and perimeter a footprint gives you.

Your dimensions

Inputs accept 1500 ft. That is a limit on this input field, not a limit on what can be engineered or built.

Footprint

40 × 60 = 2,400 square feet

Perimeter 200 ft. Width × length only — this does not describe the structure, the clearance inside it or what it costs.

How this works

Floor area is width × length, rounded to whole square feet. Perimeter is twice the width plus twice the length. The outline is drawn to the proportions you typed. That is the whole calculation.

Assumptions

A simple rectangular footprint measured in feet, with no overhangs, lean-tos or porches included. The 1–500 ft input range protects the field only; it is not a building feasibility limit.

Limitations

It does not account for structural design, decide code compliance, size doors or interior clearances, or estimate what the building will cost to buy or erect.

Not sure of the size yet?

If you know the use but not the footprint, the size planner works from a garage, RV or workshop plan instead.
