Planning utilities

Steel building planning tools

Two small utilities for the dimension stage of a project: square footage from a width and a length, and common planning sizes for a given use. Both are arithmetic on figures we publish. Neither is engineering advice, a price estimate or a code check.

  • Steel Building Square Footage Calculator

Turns a width and a length into floor area, perimeter and a schematic footprint.

    Who it helps:
Anyone checking what a dimension actually gives them before comparing buildings.
    What you get:
Square footage, perimeter, a to-scale outline and a link to the matching size guide.

  • Steel Building Size Planner

Explores common planning sizes for a garage, an RV or boat, or a workshop.

    Who it helps:
Buyers who know the use but not the footprint.
    What you get:
Two to four planning options, each with the reason it appeared and where to read more.

What these tools do not do

They do not price a building, size a structural member, check a wind or snow requirement, or confirm that a size meets your local code. Costs live in our cost research; structural design belongs with your supplier's engineer.
