Tube-frame carports use a light galvanised square-tube frame with screwed steel panels. They are inexpensive per covered square foot, quick to install, and easy to extend or enclose later — which is why they dominate residential vehicle cover and light farm storage.
They are not equivalent to a rigid-frame steel building. Clear spans are limited, insulation and interior finishing are harder to retrofit, and commercial permitting often demands the heavier system. For vehicle, hay and equipment cover the tube frame is the sensible choice; for a conditioned workshop or a commercial premises it usually is not.
